This is the home of the Prince George's Community College Police Academy. Typically police accadmies in Maryland are department sponsored. This means that one is hired by a police department and the agency send recruits though an academy at their own expense. The PGCC Police Academy is self sponsored by the recruit. The recruit self pays for the academy and then once they graduate, they are certified as a police officer in Maryland, but are not employed by any agency. Once hired by an agency, they are treated as a lateral entry instead of a new recruit, but they must still complete field training with their employing agency.
