Economy of Haripur and Narasinghpur viallgers under Rasulpur block in Jajpur district is looking up, thanks to jatra dressmaking. The government's help to SHGs boosted this centuries-old craft.

Since time immemorial, inhabitants of both the villages have making dresses for jatra artists. Gitanjali Jena, 30, of Haripur is the head of Maa Tarini SHG, which has been making and selling jatra dresses."The authorities provided training and financial help to our SHG, comprising 15 women, in 2013. We took a Rs 1-lakh loan from a bank two years back to start a jatra dress-making unit in the village," said Gitanjali."We make costumes for Radha, Krishna, Ravan, Ram, Sita, Hanuman and other mythological characters. We also make coats, crowns, coloured umbrellas and hats," she added.
