Formerly the home of the Elite Cafe, which existed here from 1938 until 1971. It was the Elite's second location after its original location a few doors down, dating to the 1920s. It was owned and operated by brothers Bill and Jim Girgulis, both immigrants from Greece. They were noted for their generosity, especially to the poor and hungry during the Great Depression and soldiers during World War II. The building burned down in 1982. It was also the longtime home of the Trading Post, a store specializing in jewellery and indigenous-style clothing. Opened in 1965, it closed permanently in 2015 with the retirement of its owner, Bruce Garman.
The former Trading Post location was turned into The Brasserie, a short-lived breakfast/lunch restaurant that closed by the beginning of 2017. It was owned by the same people who owned The Ivy and The League, two other restaurants/bars that closed around the same time.
