Africa Hall, home of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), also referred to simply ECA, is located in the area known as Arada, 5.5km (3.4mi) northwest of Bole International Airport. The organization was established in 1958 by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and Addis Ababa was chosen as its' headquarters in the same year. Subsequently, the original seven-story building, consisting a conference hall was built. It was here, in this very conference center, that the African Union's predecessor, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was founded in 1963. The newly built, United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) is also located within the compound of Africa Hall.
