On February 12th, 2014, a sinkhole opened in the Skydome area of the museum following heavy rain in the area. The sinkhole swallowed eight Corvettes, which had an estimated combined value of about $1 million. All were recovered, with two being fully restored, while the remaining six are displayed in "as-rescued" condition. The Skydome area of the museum reopened the following year after undergoing $3.2 million in repairs.
