Bandelier National Monument contains several ruins of Anasazi communities dating from about the thirteenth century C.E. The monument headquarters is easily accessible by paved road and has ample picnic grounds in the immediate vicinity. Juniper Campground is available for overnight camping. The monument has a number of back country trails of interest to hikers; however, the topography of the park (finger mesas with almost vertical sides) makes many of the trails quite challenging.
