Second World War 1939-1945, wall(s)
The retaining wall functioned as a physical support for the former tramway hoist engine house, which aided in the transportation of construction materials to Point Bonita for the construction of Point Bonita Military Reservation's (Fort Barry) batteries and post buildings between 1901 and 1910, and later for the Signal Corps Radar 296 Station 5 Transmitter Building during WWII.
