Nutri-Turf, a Jacksonville-based subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch Companies Inc., handles as much as 2 million gallons of wastewater flowing from the Jacksonville Anheuser-Busch brewery through its 1,100 acres of grass fields and then through treatment ponds. The company also sells the sod it grows on the farm. The sod farm-cum-water treatment operation makes between $1 million and $1.5 million in revenue annually, but it is not allowed to make a profit. That's because its primary function is to save the brewery water treatment expenses.
