In the 19th century, a baseball stadium stood at this location, now completely obliterated by the Dan Ryan Expressway & CTA Red Line. The first team to play here was the Chicago entry in the Players League, an upstart league that began and ended play in 1890. The National League Club (then the White Stockings, now the Cubs) played here in 1892. The team split their 1893 home schedule between this park and the 2nd West Side Park, before relocating there permanently in 1894.
