Originally the decrepit and segregated Jefferson-Moore High School (shuttered in 1986), this became the Waco 9th Grade Center in 1988 before becoming the A.J. Moore Academy in 1997, a magnet school focusing on post-secondary education. It renovated in 2009-2010.

Following a reorganization/consolidation of schools in after spring 2012, the school was rechristened as Indian Spring Middle School and the A.J. Moore program was consolidated with University High School.
