Dobson's Windmill (Burgh le Marsh)

United Kingdom / England / Burgh le Marsh / High Street, 73
 windmill, Grade I Listed (UK)

The mill was built by Sam Oxley of Alford in about 1813. It has five storeys and has unusual left-handed sails which means the sails rotate clockwise. It contains much of its original equipment. The mill should be working on open days wind permitting. There is a milling museum which includes a Blackstone Diesel engine.
The group is only small, 8 people, but they have the mill grinding wheat and other grain as often as possible. The mill is normally open from Easter Sunday and then every Sunday until the end of September, from 13.30 hours to 17.00 hours. Entrance to the mill is free, with some of the volunteers acting as guides. There is also have a gift shop, tea room (homemade cakes etc on sale), a milling gallery, including Roman and medaeival artifacts, a small museim and a Lister Blackstone diesel engine, which is also running on a regular basis. For those unable to get up inside this unique mill (it is left-handed, the sails rotate clockwise and the stones anti-clockwise) there is a DVD which is shown in the gift shop (free armchairs provided).
