The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago (Chicago, Illinois) | hotel

USA / Illinois / Chicago / Chicago, Illinois / East Pearson Street, 160

Confusingly, this hotel was for decades not part of the global Ritz-Carlton chain, despite its name and use of their iconic lion logo. The name and logo have been around for many decades, in use at various hotels. The builders of this hotel acquired the rights to use the Ritz-Carlton name and logo when they opened their hotel in 1975. This was before the modern Ritz-Carlton chain was established in the mid-1980s, using the same name and logo worldwide. So that this hotel would be part of a chain, the owners contracted Four Seasons to manage the hotel in 1977. The hotel finally joined the actual Ritz-Carlton chain in 2015.
