Patrick R. Cleburne Cemetery is the final resting place of 600- 1000 Confederate soldiers who fought and died in the Battle Of Jonesboro. This area was where most of the heavy fighting of the battle took place. The 600+ headstones are unmarked as all are unknown and the number of men buried here is unknown as some men were buried without markers and some were buried two or more bodies in one grave.

Major General Patrick R. Cleburne (CS) was called the " Stonewall Jackson of the West". Cleburne played an important part in all the fighting in the Atlanta Campaign as well as every battle the Army Of Tennesee (CS) was in as his division was always in the thick of the fighting. His men fought well here and many of these men buried here are from his Division. He was killed 7 weeks after the battle here during General John B. Hood foolish head-on attack againt an entrenched Union army at the Battle of Franklin Tenn, November 30, 1864. The attack was lead once again by Cleburne and his Division, he was killed leading his men foward and the CS army was so badly mauled it never recovered.
