  • Actually GUM was built in 1889-1893 and this was built ten years later by architects S. M. Kalugin, B. Freidenberg and V. Shukhov. Style is undoubtedly similar - Shukhov was involved in the construction of GUM. The bas-relief, Worker, designed by the sculpture Manizer and fixed to the building's facade in 1921 at the Petrovka Ulitsa entrance, is a rare surviving example of Lenin's 1920 plan for "Sculptural Propaganda." In the late 1980s Turkish contractors from the company Enka restored the building which reopened as a mall in 1990.
