Literal meaning: The Poor Sheikh.

One of the many beautiful cities in Horan, 77 KMS south of Damascus, the capital of syria and 24 KMS to the North of Daraa city. Historiaclly , the name of this city might have come from the name of a good Sheikh (old man ) who used to welcome guests and the pilgrims (Hajis) to Mecca . The city depends on agriculture, mainly, olive trees, wheat, fruits and vegetables like okra, tomatoes and other crops. There are many schools and the people of this city are highly educated.

They are also hospiable and generous and they welcome strangers. You can see the old village with its antique arches and the new city (nowadays) has become a strategic link between Damscus in the north to Jordan in the south, to Swaida in the eat and to the occupied Golan hights in the west.
