U.S.A.-Mexico Border | wall(s), fence

USA / California / Imperial Beach /
 border, wall(s), fence

The fence is many thousand miles long. Here it is marked only a portion at the beach of Playas de Tijuana / Border Field State Park.
The border between the USA and Mexico is some 2,000 miles (3 219 km) long. On some areas, the US has built a separating so-called secure fence. It is made of different types of stuff and has different levels of security, depending on location. Plans are on the go to spread out the fence all the way from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico (on May, 2006 the US Senate approved a expansion that could include 370 miles of triple layered-fencing and a vehicle fence).

  • At low tide this means it's just a nice short walk to the US around the end of the fence! Look at the linked picture. Scroll to far right and bottom. It's a joke on taxpayers but it creates a market for fencing material suppliers and creates some nice jobs for those who make it around the fence. :+}
  • Didn't they just put up a fence here about a month ago, stretching out sone 50ft into the Pacific.
  • The US authorities say the fence has been a success against illegal immigrants and drug smugglers. Anyway I guess that the deterrent effect of this wall is more psychological than physical. The barrier isn't that difficult to overcome, but it shows who has the power to build it. Even with the fence, there is always the control of the U.S. Border Patrol. The electronic control of the border is also accomplished.
