Shebaa Farms

Lebanon / an-Nabatiyah / Marjuyun /
region, draw only border, territorial dispute

Section of land near the Golan Heights disputed between Syria, Israel, and Lebanon. Israel occupied the territory (which it calls "Har Dov") in 1967 together with the Golan Heights, and unilaterally annexed both in 1981. However, the Israeli annexation has been universally condemned by the international community, and is not recognised by any other state aside from Israel. The clear international consensus regarding the Shebaa Farms is that the land belongs to Syria, a position held even by close Israeli allies such as the US. Lebanon also claims ownership of the land based on alleged ambiguities in historical maps, but this claim is also widely dismissed. For its part, Syria has made conflicting statements regarding its own position, at times openly supporting the Lebanese claim, while at other times declaring that the border status will be resolved only when Israel withdraws from the Golan Heights.
