This colony was orginally started for the employees of Public Sector (Govt. of India Undertaking) FACT Ltd. in the (approx)1980s . Over a period of time the colony has grown to include not just FACT employees, old and new, but also the general public including many staff of the Cochin University. This colony has approximately 125 houses. This colony is at walkable distance from Cochin University of Science and Technology.

There are no buses as of now that will directly reach Vidya Nagar colony.
This colony is about 2 km from the bus stop (South Kalamassery). You can get auto from South Kalamassery to Vidya Nagar.

This is approximately 10 km from Ernakulam North Railway Station and around 12 km from Ernakulam South Railway Station. You can alternatively reach here by getting down at Aluva Railway Station, which is also at approx. 10 km distance.

There are regular private buses in the route. If you are boarding from Ernakulam, then almost all buses going to Aluva will go through South Kalamassery. If you are boarding from Aluva, almost all buses going to Ernakulam will be going through Kalamassery. There are sufficient buses in this route and the frequency of buses reaching Kalamassery is one in every two minutes during peak hours.
