Elephant Hills Resort Golf Course

Zimbabwe / Matabeleland North / Victoria Falls / Park Way Drive
 golf course, park, interesting place

The Elephant Hills Resort boasts an 18-hole championship golf course designed by the legendary Gary Player. It is as popular with the wildlife as it is with golfers, as it is not uncommon for play to be interrupted while buck, warthogs or elephants exercise their right to walk on the fairways. Many golfing guests see this as an added bonus and, of course, it makes for great banter over a drink afterwards. Nowhere in the world is there such an experience for golfers as that at the Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls.

Eight of the holes have water hazards and bunkers encourage accurate approach shots. Elephant, buffalo and warthog wander along the specially erected game fence. The superbly maintained fairways and greens have been planted with imported grasses and modern irrigation systems to ensure that they are always lush.

  • When I visited in 1975 and 1976 I was told that the three holes next to the Zambesi River had the following rules. A free drop was granted if a ball came within one club length of a croc. Two club lengths for a hippo. It was also alledged that the club pro had trained a baboon at a certain hole to run out and drop hos ball in the cup.
