This is a free-flowing system interchange of Interstate 64 and Interstate 295 located at the northern/western terminus of I-295. It was originally built as a half-cloverleaf interchange, with the intention of extending I-295 south to continue a beltway of Richmond. However, environmental concerns and development caused the southwest segment to built on a slightly different alignment as Virginia State Route 288. Since the southern extension was abandoned, a semi-directional flyover ramp was built to connect eastbound I-64 to I-295, replacing one of the loop ramps and eliminating weaving on I-64. The flyover ramp was opened in January 2009 and completed in May at a cost of $67 million.
