In 1974 at the initiative of E.F. Gnesin a new 13-story building was constructed for the State musical school of a name of the Gnesins by the architects V.S. Egerev, A.A. Shaikhet and Z.F.Abramov has been constructed. This is the educational building of the school and it connect the № 36). On the side of the building with no windows is a metal sculpture representing a woman with a lyre.
The building includes many classrooms, concert and sports halls, a sound department, and library. In 1998 the concert hall of school was reconstructed.
Earlier on the site of this building, there was a two-story private residence which at first belonged to A.D. Samarin, and then, up to 1916, to his relatives. During the First World War the Samarin family gave the house to the Central administrative board of the Red Cross, and the family only occupied the ground floor rooms. The private residence of the Samarin family was destroyed in 1965.
