Muddy Run was the largest pumped storage plant in the world when it began commercial operation in 1966. Its current generating capacity is 1071 megawatts. The 14-mile stretch of the Susquehanna River, known as the Conowingo pond serves as the lower reservoir for the Muddy Run facility.
