 county, draw only border

Formed on May 10, 1729 out of Chester County, Lancaster County was named for Lancashire in England. The county seat, Lancaster, was chartered a borough in 1742; a city in 1818. It was the State capital, 1799-1812. The county is noted for its rich farmland and ethnic diversity.

Known as the "Garden Spot" of America and "Amish Country USA" (Pennsylvania Dutch Country), the County of Lancaster was formed on May 10, 1729, and for two hundred fifty years used the seal of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as its seal. An amendment to the County Code allowed the Commissioners to prescribe the form of the County seal; therefore, in 1979, the County of Lancaster adopted as its seal a heart within a heart.
