The four-story, $25-million building is the first freestanding library in DePaul’s history. The 190,000-square-foot building was opened in 1992. The Richardson Library provides 1,100 study seats, three study lounges, 14 group study rooms, a computer lab, three conference rooms and numerous special collections of art on the history of St. Vincent de Paul and DePaul University.

The library was named after DePaul’s ninth president (1981-93), Rev. John T. Richardson, C.M., in 1993. The Richardson Library supports programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the Department of Nursing, the School of Music and The Theatre School.

The library also hosts DePaul’s 4,000-square-foot University Museum, which features a collection of permanent and temporary art exhibitions, and the offices of Instructional Design & Development (IDD), Teaching & Learning Resources and University Office of Mission and Values.
