The Cathedral Church of St Mary of the Assumption, usually know as St Mary's Cathedral is a cathedral of the Roman Catholic Church in the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is the see of the Bishop of Aberdeen, who is the ordinary of the Diocese of Aberdeen in the Province of St Andrews & Edinburgh.
The Cathedral was designed by Alexander Ellis and opened in 1860 after the laws favorable to the return of the Sees of Catholic Church.
The spire and bells were added by R.G. Wilson in 1876-77.
It became the Cathedral (the church of the Bishop's Chair ) when the post-Protestant reformation diocese was set up in 1878.
The church is always open to visitors.
