Croom was a promising little settlement back in the 1890's, when it sported a turpentine still, sawmill, sugar mill, rail yard & depot. Croom was a junction for two long-defunct railroad lines and was the site of a rail bridge crossing the Withlacoochee River.

Today, Croom is a ghost town, with little left of significance. Ruins mark the site of the old bridge and the depot was still standing as late as 1969. The Thomas House (circa 1900) and some old family cemeteries are Croom's legacy today.
