A massive basaltic-rhyolitic shield volcano 7,913 ft (2412 m) high with a 7 x 12 km (4.3 x 7.5 mi) wide caldera with the lake that bears the volcano's name. The caldera appears to have formed by slow magma subsidence rather than by explosive eruptions. The last eruption occurred nearly 1100 years ago, when the Glass Mountain Flow was erupted.
