Originally constructed in 1926 as the first permanent location for the Kent State University School, which acted as a K-12 teacher training school. In 1956, the University School moved into a new facility on Summit Street (now known as the Michael Schwartz Center) and the building was renamed Franklin Hall. Franklin currently houses the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Daily Kent Stater, Black Squirrel Radio, TV2 and other student media.
