Smyrna Methodist Church was formed around 1820, after a Presbyterian congregation founded on this site in 1786 was relocated to a church in town.
The present church building dates from 1911, and is the third sanctuary to be erected here. It was preceded by an 1860 structure, and the first building, built from logs in 1793.
An Historical Marker related to the church was placed here by the State of Georgia.
