Reuben E. Lee (site) (San Diego, California)

restaurant, barge, historical layer / disappeared object

The Reuben E. Lee is not really a boat, but rather a building on a barge. The faux stern-wheeler has no engine and the paddle wheel is merely for show.

Built in the 1960s as a restaurant, with four dining rooms and three kitchens, the Reuben E. Lee apparently has never left its dock. Historically speaking, the riverboat's value is its role in San Diego's culinary past and its presence on the waterfront for nearly a half-century as the city grew up around it.

It was closed in 2004 and moved in 2012 to a dock south of the Coronado Bridge where it sunk later that year.

  • Ruben? Who's that, Robert E. Lee's Mexican brother?
  • This former restaurant, (simular to the former Ruben E. Lee in Newport Beach, CA), closed in 2003.
  • Just watched this San Diego Landmark taken away from Harbor Island, on it's way to be dismantled in South Bay. Wonderful memories from Meat Market (place to meet singles) to Prom dates, and much more!!! Opened 1969, closed in 2003... Moved 2012 Wonder how many critters have taken up residence since 2003, welcome to Chula Vista!!!
