Also known as Bob-Lo Island, this was the home of Boblo, Detroit and Windsor's amusement park playground which operated from 1898 to 1993. It is now home to million dollar cottages.
In 1742 it contained a large village of Huron Indians, and the French established a Jesuit Mission here at the same time. Two Blockhouses were built on the island in 1796 as Outposts to the Fort at Amherstburg but were later replaced by three between 1812 and the 1830s as a result of the War of 1812 and Fenian raids. Two blockhouses still exist in the middle and Southern end of the Island. One is in a terrible state.
