The Boris Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering was founded in 1960 by professors B. Verkin, A. Galkin, B. Eselson, I. Dmitrenko.
They worked at the well-known Ukrainian Physics-Technical Institute (UPhTI - УФТИ), where the cryogenic school of active physicists-experimenters was formed.
The Institute keeps up the traditions of the Kharkiv school of theoretical physics initiated by L. Landau and I. Lifshits.
