Recreation of 18th Century French/English fortified trading post built on the original site.
The fort was the biggest British installation that fell to Ojibway Indian attack during Pontiac's Revolt. Roughly half of the 50-man garrison was killed in a surprise attack and the rest were taken prisoner.
English authority was restored and a new and larger fort was built the following year.
Abandoned by the British during the American Revolution in favor of a new and stronger position on Mackinac Island.
