Original Branch Davidian Compound Location

USA / Texas / Hallsburg / Double EE Ranch Road, 1781
 massacre, interesting place

In 1993, the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) attempted to raid a compound at this location, but were met with heavy gunfire and eventually had to retreat. Some of the raid was captured on camera. The residents of the compound were known as the Branch Davidians, an offshoot of a 7th Day Adventists branch in California. They were led by Vernon Howell (A.K.A. David Koresh).

After the ATF raid failed, the FBI completely sealed off the area. After 51 days of telephone negotiations, armoured vehicles moved in and started to poke holes in the building. After some 6 hours, a fire broke out, most likely started by the residents, even though this is still debated. More than 70 people died in the flames, several of them being children and infants.

The ATF has since then become "the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives" and been moved from the US Treasury Department into the US Justice Department.
