Named in honor of the folk figure buried here, Johnny Appleseed Park contains baseball diamonds, volleyball and basketball courts, a campground, a playground, and boat launch.

Annually held each September, the Johnny Appleseed Festival is celebrated here. The festival traditionally features food, crafts, and historical demonstrations recalling the era of John Chapman.

The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
