A key figure in the history of Fort Wayne and the Old Northwest Territory, William Wells served as Captain of Spies for the United States Army under the direction of Commander and Chief General Anthony Wayne.
In 1808, the U.S. Congress authorized an area of 320 acres just north of downtown Fort Wayne to William Wells in recognition of his service to the nation. This would become the current Spy Run neighborhood.
Today, Spy Run, wedged between Spy Run Creek and the St. Joseph River, is home to about 1,500 Fort Wayne residents.
Points of interest include Lawton Park, Old Fort Wayne, and Science Central.
