Leo Musgrave, a local dairy farmer, built Sunshine Speedway on his 250 acre farm, opening it in 1960. From 1983 to 1987 the track was operated by Musgrave's widow, Sibyl. In 1987 operations were taken over by Musgrave's daughter Bonnie and her husband, Frank Hill. The state had been threatening to build a connector between the Bayside Bridge and I-275 since 1983, but took more than 20 years to reach the point of actually buying the property from the Musgrave family. This finally occurred in 2004. In 2012, it was leased back from the state and reopened with a new name.
