Old Tampa Bay is one of the four open water segments which comprises the Tampa Bay estuary. Old Tampa Bay is the portion of Tampa Bay which is bounded by Pinellas County to the west and northwest, and Hillsborough County to the the north and east.

Old Tampa Bay is fed by the Coastal Old Tampa Bay Watershed, an area which includes numerous lesser bodies such as Lake Tarpon and the Lake Tarpon Outfall Canal, Rocky Creek, and others. The northern alcoves known as Safety Harbor and Mobbly Bay are extensions of Old Tampa Bay. The waters of Old Tampa Bay empty into Middle Tampa Bay.

Old Tampa Bay is spanned by three major east-west bridges which link Hillborough and Pinellas Counties:
* Courtney Campbell Causeway (State Road 60)
* Howard Frankland Bridge (Interstate 275)
* Gandy Bridge (US 92)

Additionally, in Pinellas County, it is spanned by:
* Bayside Bridge - crossing north-south between Clearwater and Largo
* State Road 580 Bridge - across the bay's northwestern tip, linking Safety Harbor and Oldsmar
* CSX Railroad bridge - Immediately north of the SR 580 bridge
