Soyangje 2nd Bridge (Chuncheon)

Korea (South) / Kangwon / Chunchon / Chuncheon

During the Korean War, Chuncheon was one of the locations of some of the most fierce battles, blocking North Korean forces from advancing southward. Especially in Soyang river. South and North Korean armies fought ferociously to control this area.

From July 8th to August 1st, 1951 U.S. 62nd engineer battalion established a wood bridge to secure a line of communication at the location of the current Soyangje 2nd Bridge. Back then, the bridge was called Forney Bridge after Colonel Frank H. Forney who was the commander of 62nd engineer battalion and is one of the fallen heroes of the Korean War.

The Forney Bridge served as a critical transportation facility. However, due to deterioration of the Forney Bridge, it was torn down and replaced with the modern Soyangje 2nd Bridge. The bridge now contributes to the convenience and economic development of the city,
