The Seung-Il Bridge, known for having its construction begun in 1948 with a Soviet design while Cheorwon was in North Korean territory before the Korean War, and after being suspended by the war, was completed in 1952 by US Army Engineers after the territory became part of South Korea. The name takes one word each from then South Korean President Rhee Seung-man and North Korean leader Kim Il Sung. Having been taken over by the newer Hantan Grand Bridge to its side in 1999, the Bridge is no longer used for vehicle traffic (13 tons maximum) but pedestrians can still cross.
