It is Highfield Campus’ best kept secret. Tucked away behind the Students’ Union lies three hectares of the Valley Garden. Rightly referred to as the ‘Secret’ garden, many staff and students spend years on Highfield campus without ever venturing into, or having any knowledge of the gardens.

Most days of the year, including weekends on request, the garden is accessible by all students and staff. It’s a tranquil green oasis in the heart of the Highflield campus; an area to enjoy some peace and quiet from the rigours of the day.

The garden was first created in 1951 and is home to many rare plant and animal species. There is a whole range of plants from the Giant Redwood to the Indian Bean Tree. Great Crested Newts can be found in the upper pond and there’s also a badger sett.
