A new airport under construction by CAA near Islamabad (the land was acquired from Attock District and latter amalgamated into capital territory). NIIA is expected to be operational by April 2018. PM Office Islamabad announced today (1st March 2018) that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi headed the cabinet meeting where the name “Islamabad International Airport” was approved for the new airport.The airport commenced operations 3 May 2018, replacing the old Benazir Bhutto International Airport.[
