Hatibari (ହାତୀବାରି), a nice village filled with scenic beauty and people contributing to the world society.
Red rising sun with the Brahmani (ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣୀ) bridge towards Old Karadapal (କରଡାପାଳ) in east, setting sun with stepping hills towards Haripur (ହରିପୁର) and Baliposhi (ବାଲିପୋଷି) in west, cattle flock clouded afternoon dusts in partially arable northern landscapes, touching the feet of the distant mountain Sunajhar (ସୁନାଝର), and Pandera (ପାଣ୍ଡେରା), branch of the sacred river Brahmani(ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣୀ), towards Mangarajpur (ମଙ୍ଗରାଜପୁର) in south roughly describe the nice geography of Hatibari(ହାତୀବାରି). There are some outside interesting places nearby Hatibari. Ashtamihuri (ଅଷ୍ଟମୀହୁଡି) attracts people in a winter festival, the Ashtami (ଅଷ୍ଟମୀ). Naliajhar (ନାଳିଆଝର) is the favorite picnic spot of the villagers and school children. Weekly Haripur Haata (ହରିପୁର ହାଟ) overcrowds the streets on Mondays.
Population of the village is about 4,000. Village schools, situated in the midst of the village, provide basic education from nursery to high school level. These are some of the old and good schools in Sukinda (ସୁକିନ୍ଦା) block. The primary-upper primary school was established in 1946, prior to independence. The High school was established in 1965. The school alumni have brought reputation to the village in many sectors. Among them are : school teachers and headmasters, College lecturers and professors, Police Inspectors, sub-inspectors and Constables, Railways TCs, TTEs and TTIs, MBAs, Bank cashiers, clerks and POs, Insurance agents, Telecom officers, Defence Millitary and Air Force personnels, Technicians, nurses, Doctors, Engineers, and Scientists. Many of them have brought accollades to the state and country as well. With a number of mining plants creeping up nearby, basic education is taking a diversion towards technical sectors. After matriculation students prefer to get some degrees in technical courses, viz. Diploma, ITI or engineering. Some even pursue them after their +2 career. The ISPAT capital of India, Kalinganagar (କଳିଙ୍ଗନଗର), situated about 20 kms away from the village, has become the recruitment hub station in technical sectors to most of the villagers.
People of Hatibari are pious and geneorous. This is apparent from many temples and sub-temples in the village. Mahadev Mandir (ମହାଦେବ ମନ୍ଦିର), Shiv Mandir (ଶିବ ମନ୍ଦିର), Jagannath Mandir (ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ମନ୍ଦିର), Shani Mandir (ଶନି ମନ୍ଦିର), Maa Kaliaghoda (କାଳିଆଘୋଡା), Mangala Banyan tree (ମଙ୍ଗଳା ବରଗଛ) are some of them. Each shahi (ସାହି) has its own Gods and Goddesses. People believe both in Vedic and Tantric rituals.
Cultivation for food-is the motto of all people. Most of the food comes from all time fertile lands in Mangarajpur. Chief cultivation products are rice(ଧାନ), groundnuts(ବାଦାମ) and grams(ବିରି, ମୁଗ). People also cultivate sugarcane, mustard, castor, and winter vegetables like chilli, brinjal, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, bitter and sweet gourd, lady fingers, tomato, cucumber etc. People often deal in food exchanges, mainly rice and groundnuts.
The village scene is enhanced and reflected mainly in the branch-river Pandera with the bridge, ponds viz. Now a days villagers get everything in the village. Many grocery shops in each sahis sell daily grocery products from rice, dal, vegetables to fish, meat, oil and salt. More often families get them directly even without going to the shops. People get many products from roaming sellers viz. icecream, fried nuts, sarees, bangles, metal/mud/plastic utensils and cosmetic products. People are well informed about meetings and other important occasions in village by means of an old system of siren : the drum beating piperman.
Everyday, from morning to night, Hatibari main road gets flooded with large number of automobiles and bicycles. In reaping seasons, Bullock-carts and tractors. And everyday herds of cows, buffallos and lambs accompany to the distant grazing lands neaby Naliajhar and Sunajhar mountain.

They believe that had it not been due to their forefathers' past sacrifices, they would now be nowhere, or even might have been depleted from the earth. This is reflected from their village festivals. They celebrate Durgapuja, Lakshmipuja and Kalipuja in very pompous manners such that Hatibari attracts many nearby villagers. So are also the Ganesh puja, Saraswati puja, Kartikeshwara puja and Bhaluguni puja. Raja, Astami, Deewali, are some of the others.
