Appointed by the Presbyterian Church of England, Rev JAB Cook arrived in 1881 to oversee missionary work among the Chinese in Singapore. In Nov 1881 Cook began ministering to the Chinese at Bukit Timah. This event was significant because it eventually led to the founding of the Chinese Christian Church; this was subsequently renamed the Glory Presbyterian Church, the third oldest Chinese-speaking congregation in the Presbyterian Synod.
