Mandi Ahmedgarh
Ahmedgarh is an example of pre-independence town planning. It was planned as a market town on the model of Lyallpur (Faizabad) in Pakistan. The planning consisted of a cross-axis of two main avenues along which auctioning, vending and storage of agricultural and agriculture related goods took place. The four quadrants thus formed constituted the residential quarters for the people. The town was enclosed by a Fasil, an arched wall with only four manned entry points for security.

As a peasant farmer I buy from Mandi 2 to 3 times a day.

  • this is a town having 28000 population acc. to census 2001.it han 14 banks and many bazars.kukkar chownk,dhoolkot chownk,ambedkar chownk,bhagat singh chownk,gandhi chownk,guru teg bahadur marg are the main chownks in this town.there are about 10 schools and three colleges in this town.it deserve to become tehsil.now it is a sub tehsil.
  • It's unbelievable how much this town has changed since the early 1950's . It can definitely use some better sanitation control schemes. The Malerkotla road from Ludhiana to Ahmedgarh and beyond is excellent. It's nice to know that people are exploring and venturing into new business opportunities - that's the only way to make progress rather than sitting around and waiting for government subsidies.
