  • It is not a John Denver song it is a John Prine song , get facts straight
  • Yep ... Fixed it. It was also not a prison but an iron works.
  • The Green River Iron Co. was never a prison, per se. After the civil war, the company president was ex civil war general, Don Carlos Buell. In the 1880's, stone from the local quarry was shipped down the Green River, by barge, to the Ohio, then up the Cumberland River to Eddyville, Ky. There it was used to build the Kentucky State Prison aka the "castle on the Cumberland". The stone was quarried using state prisoners for labor. While doing so, they were housed in the vacant Green River Iron Works. Locals referred to it as the prison, hence the name, "the old prison". I've a photo of the stone steps going up the hill, made my a relative in the early 1900's, as well as a photo of the Rockport, Ky. home of Gen. Don Carlos Buell........
  • I have just walked the original Airdrie Hill and viewed the Aran Hills on the Isle of Aran on the west coast of Scotland ,,a wonderful sight
