Carl Benz House (Ladenburg)

Germany / Baden-Wurttemberg / Ladenburg / Dr.-Carl-Benz-Platz
 memorial, museum

The two-story building at the Carl-Benz-Square was built in the end of the 19th century and is connected to the history of Ladenburg several times through its residents.

Especially through Carl Benz who bought the building 1905 from Christian Friedrich Leonhard, a brewery owner from Mannheim. C.B. extended it to the south (21.06.1905) and built the glass veranda in 1921. In 1910 Carl Benz added the ‘garage’.

1970 the Town of Ladenburg purchased the house with its adjacent park. The property was temporarly used by clubs and associations for their purposes. In 1977 the house was renovated for the first time. In 1984 it was purchased to the Daimler Benz AG which renovated the building for the second time in 1985.

Since 25.11.1985 it is the Daimler Benz Foundation domicile and used as a conference center. On the garden level an exhibition is set up, dedicated primary to the engineering achievements of Carl Benz.
