Neighborhood first developed in the 1910s, roughly bounded by Odana Road and the Southwest Bike Path (former Illinois Central railroad tracks)on the north, Midvale Boulevard on the west, and the UW Arboretum on the east. its southern boundary is less clear but usually is thought of as ending at Mohawk Drive. Its streets carry the names of Indian tribes. It has long been one of the fanciest and most desirable Madison neighborhoods, with many beautiful old houses.
