US Coast Guard Station Lorain was established and built in 1904 as a US Lifesaving Service Lifeboat Station and formally opened at this site on the east side of the entrance to the Black River in 1908. Presently, Station Lorain is home to 23 Active Duty, 7 Reservist, and 6 Auxillarist and a full Aids To Navigation Team.

The station has 4 boats: a 41 ft Utility Boat, a 25 ft Respones Boat, a 21 ft Trailerable Aids to Navigation Boat, and a 16 ft Ice Skiff for Winter operations. The Station is Part of the US Coast Guard's 9th District, Sector Buffalo.
