SRCC is a University of Pittsburgh building. In 1962, Chancellor Litchfield obtained a grant from NASA to erect this center for students studying the natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, or health areas related to the aerospace field.

Today, the building houses classrooms, labs and main offices of the Department of Geology and Planetary Science.
